Tableland Veterinary Service (TVS) is thrilled to announce a new grant program designed exclusively for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students at CSU Wagga Wagga campus. This initiative aims to support aspiring veterinarians and provide them with the chance to experience the unique opportunities available at our TVS clinics.

About the Grant

This grant supports veterinary students entering the fourth year of their Veterinary Science degree at Charles Sturt University (CSU), Wagga Wagga campus. It provides assistance for travel and accommodation expenses associated with completing a 2–3 week mixed practice elective placement at Tableland Veterinary Service (TVS) in Far North Queensland. The grant is available for Year 3 students who have completed all farm placements, passed all Year 3 course requirements, and are eligible to commence Year 4 Clinical Placement during the end-of-Year 3 summer break.

Value and payment of the grant

  • Grant value: Up to $1,000
  • Paid in one instalment to successful applicants

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:
  • Be enrolled full-time in the Veterinary Science degree at CSU, Wagga Wagga campus
  • Expect to complete the third year of the Veterinary Science degree at the time of application

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed based on:

  1. Academic Achievement
  2. Alignment with the Core Values of Tableland Veterinary Service
  3. Understanding of Life in Rural and Regional Australia

Application Process

Applications must be submitted using the official application form by the deadline set by the Selection Committee.

Your application should include:

  1. Academic Record
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. A 500-word written statement addressing the following questions:
    • What inspired you to pursue veterinary science? (20%)
    • What do you think rural and regional clients expect from their veterinary clinic? (20%)
    • What excites you most about your first two years in practice? (20%)
    • Which TVS core value do you identify with most, and why? (40%)
  4. Your availability for placement at Tableland Veterinary Service

Applications without the required documentation will not be considered.

Selection Process

The Selection Committee will:
  • Shortlist and/or interview candidates
  • Make final decisions regarding the grant awardee
The Committee may also contact referees or academic staff to assess an applicant’s suitability and character.

Conditions of the Grant

  • Recipients must complete a three-week elective placement at a combination of TVS clinics.
  • A written report summarizing the placement experience must be submitted to the Scholarships Office.
  • If the recipient defers their studies or takes a leave of absence, they may be required to return the grant funds.
  • If the placement does not proceed, funds may need to be returned, minus any non-refundable expenses, subject to approval by the Selection Panel Chair.

Administration of the Grant

The grant is administered by the Scholarships Office on behalf of the Selection Committee. Funds will be held in a University account and managed accordingly.
